Auction – a rockin’ good time for Home Builders Foundation supporters

13th Annual auction raises more than $100,000

More than 400 people came together on April 3 for the Home Builders Foundation’s ROCKIN’ AUCTION, presented by Bank of the West, which was held at Portland’s iconic music venue, the Crystal Ballroom.

The event raised more than $100,000 for the HBF’s shelter building program, HomeAid Portland.

The auction committee introduced a new and exciting component to the event by having celebrities serve as waiters. Pictured here L-R: Bill Schonely, Dave Scott, Joey Harrington, Sheila Hamilton, and Michael Harper.

Guests had the chance to bid on more than 100 silent auction packages, including weekend trips, tickets to concerts, and spa baskets.

After serving as Maitre D for the evening, longtime Blazer announcer Bill Schonely was presented with an award from the City of Portland by emcee Paul Linnman.

Throughout the evening, guests were treated to live entertainment courtesy of “Tim & Jim,” who act as weekly entertainers at Hayden’s on Friday nights.

Unexpectedly, Shel Bailey (AKA Charlie Girl) took over the microphone and performed a guitar set for guests.

Thanks to the many generous donors who made it possible, live auction packages included: a concert-palooza, apothecary whiskey tasting and tour, horseback riding through the Cascades, and an adorable Lhasa Apso puppy.

Guests were able to “tip” celebs with proceeds benefiting the HBF. To increase competition, the celebrity with the most “tips” was awarded $1000 to give to their favorite charity. Raising more than $4000, Mike Walter graciously chose the Home Builders Foundation as his favorite charity.

Matt Stewart (K&M Auto Repair) championed the mission of HBF when he spoke to the crowd about the abuse he endured as a child before moving to the Cordero House during its first years in the community.

Matt explained the need for charities like the Home Builders Foundation. He spoke of the impact of a partnership where Builders can rebuild shelters like Cordero House to renovate the living spaces. Matt asked that attendees match him in raising their paddles for $250. Before finishing, he was given a standing ovation by all in attendance with more new donors supporting the Foundation than any other year (more than $40,000).

This night was made possible by the many sponsors, donors and volunteers who support the Home Builders Foundation. A huge thank you goes to out to all of them. You rock!
