The 2011 Building Industry Scholarship awardees have been chosen by the HBF scholarship committee, which is made up of committed industry professionals and past scholarship winners. As part of their scholarship, each awardee will get a student membership to the HBA to help them become connected within the industry, and an opportunity to be mentored by multiple industry professionals to give them a well-rounded experience in all aspects of the home-building industry.
Logan Perry- $3,000 winner
Thank you to the Professional Remodelers Organization for their partnership in providing this scholarship
Logan Perry is a student at Portland Community College, studying Building Construction Technology. He has been fascinated with construction since he was a kid and says, “it naturally follows that this childhood interest would develop into a full-fledged career ambition.” Logan has logged numerous hours as a volunteer with Habitat with Humanity and has enjoyed networking with people in the local construction trades and gaining valuable work experience. He would eventually like to own his own residential construction company but is first focusing on, “knowing how to do the work before telling other people how to work.”
Marc Nicholls- $3,000 winner
Thank you to Cobalt Mortgage for their partnership in providing this scholarship
Marc Nicholls is currently at Portland Community College working on his Certificate in Sustainable Building and Kitchen and Bath Design. He will be moving on to Oregon State University for a Bachelor’s in Housing Studies in 2012. He hopes to return to Portland to pursue a career in residential drafting and sustainable building.
Marc understands the value of mentoring from experience in his own life and looks forward to networking with industry leaders and learning more about the business side of the home-building industry in the HBF Workforce Development mentoring program.
Congratulations, Logan and Marc!
