PDX Comedy Throwdown draws a big crowd

Friends of the Home Builders Foundation packed the house at the Star Theater in Portland on January 10th for the 2nd Annual PDX Comedy Throwdown event. Dwight Slade, winner of the 2008 Boston Comedy Festival, emceed the event, as well as local comedians Gabe Dinger, Ron Funches, Stacey Hallal and Kyle Harbert.

“We’re so grateful to have new and exciting ways to get people involved in supporting the Home Builders Foundation” said Mel Duncan, HBF Executive Director. “We could all use some comic relief from time-to-time, and what better way to do it than with some of Portland’s top comedians.”

All of the proceeds from the event will benefit ongoing HomeAid CARE projects.  The next projects on the slate for the Foundation are building garden boxes for Volunteers of America- Family Relief Nursery in February and a large renovation project for the Portland Rescue Mission’s Next Step Facility which will kick off early spring.  The Next Step expansion will increase the number of beds by more than 100% and open up the possibility of expanding emergency services to homeless women at the Burnside Shelter.

If you missed out on the laughs this year, look for the PDX Comedy Throwdown again in 2013!
