This year’s Building Hope Gala & Auction presented by California Closets proved to be another successful year for Home Builders Foundation. The event, held on April 13th at The Nines Hotel in downtown Portland, raised nearly $300,000 to help build and renovate shelters for those experiencing homelessness throughout the Portland metro area.
Led by Honorary Chair Nate Bond, President and CEO of Pacific Crest Custom Cabinetry, this year’s Building Hope Gala & Auction was supported by leaders in the home building industry including Parr Lumber, Nate & Karen Bond of Pacific Crest Custom Cabinetry, Jason & Jill Behunin of Builders FirstSource, Randy Sebastian of Renaissance Homes, and Randy & Naquel VanLant of Macadam Floor & Design, all of whom supported Home Builders Foundation with significant contributions to the event.
The Building Hope Gala & Auction drew a record 453 attendees to The Nines Hotel for an incredible night of fundraising. Attendees had the opportunity to bid on amazing live auction packages that included unique experiences such as a turkey hunt with Steve Rosling of Cascade Sotheby’s International Realty, a weekend getaway at the Stoller Family Estate’s guest houses with numerous tours and tastings of the local vineyards, and the Date Night For A Year package that had twelve inventive dates including overnight staycations, cooking classes, and much more! This year’s Golden Ticket winner Steve Kaer of Kaer Property Group surprised everyone in the room when he announced he would not take any package out of the live auction so Home Builders Foundation would have a chance to raise more money!
Home Builders Foundation highlighted its partnership with the New Meadows, a transitional housing facility for youth aging out of foster care, during its special appeal. Home Builders Foundation recruited Renaissance Homes and Walsh Construction to serve as the Builder Captains for this extensive new build, which has ten studio and five one-bedroom apartments as well as communal space for New Avenues’ programming. Home Builders Foundation raised an incredible $80,900 during the special appeal thanks to the support of attendees as well as donors who were not in attendance.
Funds raised at the Building Hope Gala & Auction benefit Home Builders Foundation, the charity of choice for the Home Builders Association. Home Builders Foundation focuses on building and renovating shelters for those who are most vulnerable when homeless, including families with children, youth, and domestic violence survivors. Home Builders Foundation completes shelter builds and renovations by leveraging donations from companies in the home building industry and providing cash grants to shelter providers to complete projects.
Home Builders Foundation would like to say a special thank you to Nate Bond for the support provided to the event. Home Builders Foundation would also like to thank all of the attendees, donors, volunteers, and the 2019 Auction Committee for their contributions to the event.
