Helping Homeless Shelters in the Portland Area

The Home Builders Foundation assists Portland area homeless shelters by providing much needed renovations to their facilities, from a simple coat of paint to full remodels. HBF also operates as a HomeAid chapter, making HBF part of the largest nationwide provider of transitional housing in America. As HomeAid Portland, the HBF focuses on shelters that help families and individuals who are temporarily homeless due to sudden job loss, catastrophic illness, spousal desertion and domestic violence.  Owned and operated by nonprofit care providers, these shelters typically include counseling and job training as core components of their programs – ultimately offering “a hand up, not a hand out.”

The HBF also administers volunteer programs to improve the livability and function of the existing facilities of local charities. Through the Painting a Better Tomorrow program, building industry professionals and other industry leaders directly contribute to the maintenance of local homeless shelters that operate on a shoestring budget and have few funds available for maintenance costs.

On average, every dollar invested in the HBF’s programs produces $2 of in-kind labor and materials.
