How you can get involved

There are many ways you can get involved in the HBF. This list is just a sample of activities that support our mission to build and remodel shelters and transitional housing for the homeless in the Portland metro area.

Building Projects

While most of the work done on our projects involves skilled professionals from the home building industry, there are many opportunities for volunteers to participate, including painting, landscaping, and gathering materials and supplies. Companies and groups can officially adopt a building project and provide all of these services plus many others. For more information on how you can help, contact Brenda.

Painting a Better Tomorrow

This special event is held one day each year in March and involves an eight hour painting blitz of area homeless shelters, transitional housing facilities, and domestic violence shelters. Typically there are over 100 volunteers involved at seven to eight area facilities. Check out the Painting a Better Tomorrow page for more information.

Events

The Foundation hosts many events during the year to raise funds for its projects. These include the Block Party at the NW Natural Street of Dreams, a very popular Trap Shoot in the fall, an annual Benefit Auction & Gala, and many educational events designed to raise community awareness of the role the Foundation plays in supporting homeless organizations. We are always looking for great companies to sponsor and participate in our events. For more information on sponsorship opportunities, contact Nicole.

Advisory Committees and Task Groups

Volunteers with specific expertise are needed for a variety of support work for the Foundation, including public relations, student mentoring, college scholarship advisement, social media consultation, strategic planning, and donor relations. Committees typically meet every other month while task groups are focused on short-term assignments. Contact Ken for more information.

Care Days

Care days involve repairs, maintenance and other enhancements at facilities previously completed by the Foundation. This may include landscaping, minor repairs, painting, and other tasks that improve shelters and transitional housing facilities. Contact Brenda to set up a Care Day for your company.

One or more of these activities can be an exciting way for you, your civic group, or company to get involved in the Home Builders Foundation. Please call Ken Cowdery at 503-603-4511 for details.
