2010 HBF Trap Shoot hits its mark, raises $20K

Our sixth annual Trap Shoot hits its mark, raising $20K for our shelter programs…

More than 200 people gathered at the Portland Gun Club on September 16 for the Home Builders Foundation’s Annual Trap Shoot presented by ProBuild. Expert and novice shooters, sponsors and volunteers came together with the common goal of aiming to end homelessness. This event, now in its sixth year, raises money annually for the HBF to continue its work of building homeless shelters throughout the Portland metro area.

“It feels great to have the home building industry come together for such an important cause,” said 2010 Trap Shoot Committee Chair Jeff Melberg with Fireside Distributors. “We had 29 teams competing this year, which is our best turn-out ever.  The generosity of our industry continues to amaze me; more and more people want to get involved in the Home Builders Foundation’s mission of building shelter for the temporarily homeless.”The event raised an estimated $20,000 for the HBF’s shelter development program, including the Cordero House and Bradley Angle projects. Attendees took part in a casual day of competition and camaraderie and many purchased raffle tickets for a chance at winning one of the more than $5,000 worth of raffle prizes. The raffle was sponsored by James Hardie, and prizes included a Traeger Grill, thousands of dollars in gift cards to Dick’s Sporting Goods, Cabelas, and local restaurants, and guided fishing trips on the Oregon Coast.NW Natural provided event canopies and a hearty BBQ lunch in between rounds of shooting. Competition was intense, but in the end Lisac’s Fireplaces and Stoves secured their championship spot, pushing Riggs Construction (2008 champs) into second and ProBuild (two-time champs in 2006 and 2007) into third place.

The tradition of the sharp shooter contest, sponsored by Pacific Lumber and Truss, continued with two men’s competitions and a newly added women’s competition taking place. Men’s winners Tim Kissock and Keith Steffen received $250 gift cards to Best Buy and REI, and the women’s competition winner, Lindsay Park of Perkins & Co., won a gift card to Nordstrom’s.

“The Trap Shoot is both a unique and casual way for the HBF to tell its story to the builders, trades and vendors. They are the magic that make our shelter builds possible,” said Melanie Duncan, Executive Director of the Home Builders Foundation. “Our committee is like a family now.  Because of their vision and efforts, the volunteers, teams and sponsorship support we received this year was amazing! We’re so very thankful.”If you’re interested in supporting or sponsoring the next Trap Shoot set for Sept 2011 at the Portland Gun Club, please contact Mel for more details.Special thanks go to the following companies for generously sponsoring the 2010 Trap Shoot: ProBuild, James Hardie, OREPAC Building Products, NW Natural, Pacific Lumber and Truss Company, Integrity Painting, Newberg Ford and Mercury, Lisac’s Fireplaces and Stoves, Westside DrywallThanks to the following teams and individuals for participating as shooters in the event: Alpha Broadcasting, American Family Mutual Insurance Company, Arbor Custom Homes, Cascade Windows, D.R.
