2011 Glitz & Glamour Auction Recap

Glitz and Glamour Auction Brings Out the 20’s FlairMore than 400 people dressed in 20’s attire came together on April 22 for the Home Builders Foundation’s Auction, presented by Bank of the West. Held at Melody Ballroom, the event grossed more than $100,000 for HBF’s programs."I was surprised to see how many folks actually dressed up roaring '20s style! That set the tone for a great party and created a real "buzz" at the Melody Ballroom,” said HBF President Luke Morley.  “More importantly, it provided us with a great opportunity to tell that large an audience about the great work our foundation is doing with Portland's homeless and students looking to get involved with careers in residential construction." At the start and end of the evening, guests were treated to big-band-style entertainment courtesy of “The Shanghai Woolies,” a band that plays 20’s and 30’s “hot music.” Guests had the chance to bid on more than 100 silent auction packages, including weekend trips, tickets to concerts, and spa baskets. Prior to the event, several HBA committees, members and local companies donated their great products and services to help the HBF reach its fundraising goals. The Golden Ticket Raffle was a huge hit with the crowd. For $100, 100 guests had the chance to buy a chance at winning their choice of the live auction packages. The winners chose a trip to Tuscany and will be off enjoying the Tuscan sun soon. The Wine Wall of Hope, a fun “grab bag” fundraiser, sold out in record time. HBA members, committee members and local companies donated wine from their personal cellars, making it a 100% donation to HBF and raising an additional $1700.Due to the relationships built with local celebrities who “waited tables” at the 2010 ROCKIN’ AUCTION, many local celebs came out to support HBF again. Both Andy Carson and Amy Roloff attended and lent their celebrity to live auction packages.Just before the start of the live auction, auction chair Katie Kadlub and Luke Morley gave heart-felt speeches that got attendees in the mood to give. Thanks to the many generous donors who made it possible, the live auction had 16 exciting packages. Packages included a suite for the Usher concert on May 26, trips to Bali and Italy, and a Luxury Yacht Tour for 25 donated by Arbor Custom Homes. This year’s special appeal asked guests to support HBF’s two year commitment to the Portland Rescue Mission’s recovery work, including energy efficient upgrades to the iconic Burnside Shelter and renovating Next Step facility in 2012, a transitional shelter. “In our recovery work and outreach, the facility can either work for you or against you,” said PRM Executive Director Eric Bauer, who made a personal plee to the group to help.-------------------------------------------This night was made possible by the many sponsors, donors and volunteers who support the Home Builders Foundation.
