2012 HBF Auction a huge success!

More than 340 people decked out in colorful feathers, beads and masks came together on April 27 for the Home Builders Foundation’s 15th annual benefit auction, presented by Sussman Shank LLP.  Held this year at the Doubletree Hotel, the event grossed over $140,000 for the Foundation’s programs. The evening began as guests were treated to Brazilian entertainment courtesy of SamBacana Brazilian Troupe complete with a drum line and dancers!  Many people took an opportunity to pose with the costumed dancers later in the evening.Guests had the chance to bid on more than 75 silent and super silent auction packages, including weekend trips, entertainment packages, and fantastic baskets.  HBA committees, members and local companies donated their great products and services to help the HBF reach its fundraising goals. The Golden Ticket Raffle was a huge hit once again with the crowd. For $100, guests had the chance to buy a chance at winning their choice of the live auction packages before they were open to bid on. The winners chose a trip to Bend to enjoy the vacation home of Mike and Angie Arnett. The Wine Wall of Hope, a fun wine fundraiser, sold out in record time.  HBA members, committee members and local companies donated wine from their personal cellars, making it a 100% donation to HBF and raising an additional $1650.  Over 100 people also participated in the always entertaining, ‘Heads or Tails’ raffle, and the generous winner donated their half of the proceeds back to the Foundation for a total of $2080 raised!A new tradition began this year as the Foundation recognized an outstanding individual and company for “Volunteer of the Year”.  Nathan D. Young, the HomeAid builder captain for the Portland Rescue Mission’s Next Step expansion project was recognized as a “Foundation Hero” for his charitable service and Miller Paint and Rodda Paint both were recognized as “Heroes” for their generosity to the Painting a Better Tomorrow program. Thanks to the many generous donors who made it possible, the live auction had 20 exciting packages. Packages included trips to Costa Rica and Italy, yacht parties, a Bend getaway, beach homes, fishing and horseback trips, golf and wine packages, and many more.   Even the “famous” George Lorance designer vest made an exciting return to the live auction and went for a whopping $2000 to Bill Gander of Standard TV & Appliance!  It proudly hangs in the HBA offices and has raised almost $10,000 for the Foundation since it was auctioned right off of George’s back at the first auction in 1998!“I want to thank all of those sponsors and attendees of the Carnival celebration in making this celebration such a success,” said Darin Honn, President of the HBF board, “and I hope you take the opportunity to participate in other Foundation projects and experiences, including the Go Kart races in July, the Trap Shoot in September and Painting a Better Tomorrow in November!”.-------------------------------------------This night was made possible by the many sponsors, donors and volunteers who support the Home Builders Foundation.  A huge thank you goes to out to all of them.Thank you: Presenting Sponsor:  Sussman Shank LLP, and sponsors Milgard Windows & Doors, Directors Mortgage, Standard TV & Appliance, Bank of the West, Cobalt Mortgage, Community Newspapers, and NW Natural.
