From Renovation to Celebration- Goose Hollow

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE GOOSE HOLLOW SHELTER:  FROM RENOVATION TO CELEBRATION RECENT RENOVATIONS GIVE MORE SUPPORT FOR PORTLAND HOMELESS FAMILIESSeptember 26, 2013 (Portland)- Sustainable lives start with sustainable environments. Portland Homeless Family Solutions (PHFS), Home Builders Foundation (HBF) and The First United Methodist Church of Portland (FUMC) invite you to a celebration of the re-opening of the newly refurbished Goose Hollow Family Shelter (GHFS) on September 26, 2013 from 11:30am-1:00pm.Goose Hollow Family Shelter is one of two homeless shelter locations operated by PHFS and its non-profit mission is to provide temporary shelter to homeless families with children, as well as training, support and case management to the families so they can get back into permanent housing and stay there long-term.The Home Builders Foundation has collaborated with multiple, local non-profit service providers dedicated to ending homelessness in Portland and beyond through its shelter building and renovation program, HomeAid. HBF has yielded a cumulative value in contributions well over $3,500,000. These resources have helped to channel the compassionate energy of Portland’s home building community into creating sustainable environments that help non-profits such as Goose Hollow Family Shelter increase its capacity to change the lives of Portland’s homeless families. In March 2012, the Home Builders Foundation, PHFS and members of the First United Methodist Church initiated a partnership to identify specific upgrades to the infrastructure of the shelter. These upgrades will enable PHFS staff to provide more extensive housing support services, greater operational capacity and increased organizational space including a new commercial-sized energy efficient laundry room.Collectively, the Home Builders Foundation, PHFS and the congregation at First United Methodist Church have actively contributed passion, time and the professional resources of their combined team of volunteers to plan, develop and complete the infrastructure enhancements to Goose Hollow Family Shelter. In addition to the HBF volunteer builder captains and designers, close to 30 trades have come together to provide donations and discounts on product and services to help make a difference in our community.A FREE OPEN HOUSE will be preceded by a luncheon which will be an opportunity to thank the volunteers who worked to enrich this unique and resourceful community partnership as well as showcase the renovations for the public. The luncheon will take place at the First United Methodist Church of Portland and the Open House will occur at the Goose Hollow Family Shelter with a short introduction and program. Come share in the passion and compassion of all of the volunteers who have made this unique partnership ever more vibrant.RSVP or contact Christine Meyer for more information.
