Home Builders Foundation announces 2013 Building Industry Scholarship winners
The Home Builders Foundation of Metropolitan Portland recently selected nine students from around the state that will be awarded a total of $20,000 in Building Industry Scholarships. The scholarship program was created by the Foundation and funded as part of a statewide effort to raise awareness and access for Oregon students pursuing careers in construction and home building.These scholarship funds are made possible by the Jim Irvine Statewide Scholarship Fund, the Gary E. Milgard Family Foundation, the NE Oregon Scholarship Fund, Cobalt Mortgage, Professional Remodelers Organization and the Home Builders Foundation.This year’s deserving recipients are:Collin Faunt, from Cleveland High School, Portland, is attending Whitman College in Walla Walla, WA in the Engineering or Architecture program, and will receive $4,000 over the next four years as the winner of the ACE Mentoring program scholarship made possible by the Gary E. Milgard Family Foundation Scholarship fund.Scylise Little, from North Bend, is attending Oregon State University for Civil Engineering, and will receive $3,000 from the Jim Irvine Statewide fund and the Home Builders Foundation.Jeffrey Kesterson, from Happy Valley, will be attending Oregon Institute of Technology in the Engineering program, and will receive $3,000 from the Jim Irvine Statewide fund and the Home Builders Foundation.Christian Ferrer, from Coquille, will be attending Oregon Institute of Technology in the Engineering program, and will receive $3,000 from the Jim Irvine Statewide fund and the Home Builders Foundation.Robert Posey, from Grants Pass, is attending Rogue Community College in the Welding program, and will receive $1,500 from the Jim Irvine Statewide fund.Paul Turner, from Lebanon is attending Linn-Benton Community College in the Electrical Engineering program, and will receive $1,500 from the Jim Irvine Statewide fund.Giselle Sheeran, from Beaverton High School, will be attending University of Oregon in the Architecture program, and is the winner of the Professional Remodelers Organization award of $1,500.Nathan Day, from Redmond, will be attending Portland State University in the Architecture program, and is the winner of the Cobalt Excellence Award of $1,500.Robert Burton, from Union, OR, is attending Blue Mountain Community College for the Electrician program, and will receive a NE Oregon Scholarship in the amount of $1,000.For more information about the Home Builders Foundation or its scholarship program, call Brenda Ketah at 503-684-1880 or visit our website at www.hbapdx.org/buildhopepdx-temp.
