Home Builders Foundation makes the holidays brighter for homeless women

Partnering with Key Home Furnishings, Home Builders Foundation furnishes day services room at Portland Rescue Mission

PORTLAND, Ore. (December 19, 2013) – The Home Builders Foundation (HBF) partnered with Key Home Furnishings to furnish the Portland Rescue Mission’s new day services room for homeless women in downtown Portland just in time for the holidays. The room will be used by women coming in off the streets.PRM Womens Day Room 2“Providing safe, dignified places for those experiencing homelessness is a top priority of our Foundation.” explains Ken Cowdery, Executive Director.  “We are particularly interested in supporting programs that focus on those who are most vulnerable. Outcomes tend to be much better if people feel respected and surroundings are very important in that regard.”Key Home Furnishings has partnered with the HBF before, donating furniture after a major renovation by the Foundation of the Goose Hollow Family Shelter. “They are new partners, and they have been great partners,” Cowdery explains. The HBF donated $2,300 towards the furniture with Key Home Furnishings donating the rest of the items that were needed, including rugs, décor and plants. The company also decorated the room for the holidays. A couch, love seat and chair were manufactured by Stanton Furniture specifically for the room.PRM Womens Day RoomThe HBF is planning two major projects for 2014 including a transitional housing facility for at-risk youth leaving foster care, and a major remodel of the Clackamas Women’s Services domestic violence shelter.About the Home Builders FoundationThe Home Builders Foundation, established in 1997, is the charity of choice for the Home Builders Association of Metropolitan Portland.
