HBF dedicates 600th HomeAid project

On a sunny Tuesday morning in June, donors, vendors, staff, board members and residents of the Love INC Community Shelter gathered to celebrate the completion of the latest Home Builders Foundation project.Love INC Newberg came to HBF with a request to add an additional bathroom to the home, where eight women and their children shared one bathroom. They ended up getting much more than they asked for. In the end, they had a new bathroom, an upgraded electrical system, an upgraded kitchen with a much needed dishwasher, and new flooring throughout the home.Jim Fisher, a retired local builder and HBF board member, was assigned to be the Build Captain on the project. Local builders and volunteers provided over $25,000 in donated labor and materials, bringing the total project value to almost $45,000. Home Builders Foundation donated $15,000 of its own funds to the project as well.Home Builders Foundation is a chapter of HomeAid America, which has seventeen chapters across the country that provide housing for homeless families and individuals. The Newberg project marked the 600th project for the organization.At the ribbon-cutting ceremony, several residents of the home shared their stories and their appreciation to those who worked on the home. Several women said that “it is not a shelter, but a home now” and one guest shared that she is able to be reunited with her children because the shelter is considered a safe place for her to have visits.If you are interested in future HBF projects, please contact Brenda Ketah.
