Paint Rivals Work Together for Good

IMG_3985Celebrating its 10th anniversary, Painting a Better Tomorrow is a joint effort of the Home Builders Foundation, the home building community and the generosity of Miller Paint and Rodda Paint.  “It’s great to see competitors joining together for a worthy cause,” said Ken Cowdery, Executive Director of the Home Builders Foundation. “Painting a Better Tomorrow brightens the lives of shelter residents and demonstrates the commitment the HBA has to our community.” “Volunteers at Work” signs were visible around the Portland Metro area on Saturday, March 12th, from downtown, to outer SE Portland, to Beaverton.Home Builders Foundation organized teams of over eighty volunteers at six local shelters where they were able to provide a much needed coat of paint for non-profit service providers that often have very small budgets for maintenance for their facilities.  They are thankful for our professional paint contractors at each of the sites that help to oversee the teams and of course thankful for the generous paint donations of the event sponsors Miller Paint and Rodda Paint.   “Rodda is proud to support our communities in need and we have been strongly involved in the Painting a Better Tomorrow program since its inception as it directly aligns with our passion. PAINT” says Lis Weller, Brand Manager at Rodda Paint who has volunteered for HBF’s Painting a Better Tomorrow program since it started and co-chairs the Painting a Better Tomorrow committee with the help of Jesse Gann of Miller Paint. Tim Doolittle, Regional Sales Manager at Miller Paint, and long-time PBT volunteer says “it’s been an honor to work with the Home Builders Foundation for the last 10 years. Miller Paint loves to give back to our community and this has been a perfect opportunity for us and our friends at Rodda Paint”.This year, teams of volunteers spread across the Portland Metro area to brighten the walls of Kateri Park, refugee housing operated by Caritas Housing Initiatives, New Avenues for Youth Drop-in Center, Volunteers of America East Family Relief Nursery, Union Gospel Mission’s LifeChange for Women and Children, Youth Progress’ Jordan House, and Yamhill Community Action Partnership’s Sharing House in McMinnville.Improving the lives of those who call a shelter “home” is what Painting a Better Tomorrow is all about. It’s an opportunity for volunteers from the home building community to use their skills, enjoy a great team building event, and give back to those in our community who need it most.  Since its start in 2006, volunteers have given over 9200 hours of community service through the Painting a Better Tomorrow event. If you’re looking for a way give back, please contact HBF Project Manager Brenda Ketah at brendak@hbapdx.org for upcoming volunteer opportunities.DSC_0072THANK YOU to the following teams and companies who volunteered, donated or discounted this year to support Painting a Better Tomorrow:
