HBF wins Best Community Service Project from the National Association of Home Builders!

Home Builders Foundation is proud to announce that we have been awarded an Association Excellence Award (AEA) from the National Association of Home Builders for the Best Community Service Project in 2017! Our winning entry was for 'The Clubhouse' expansion at Good Neighbor Center (GNC) with help from our friends at Mountainwood Homes who served as HBF Builder Captain for the project!When we first toured GNC it was clear they needed more space. The children’s area consisted of a plastic folding table and chairs amidst a mountain of donations in the storage room. The Education Specialist’s desk was surrounded by much needed items donated by the community like clothes, school supplies, bedding and toiletry items, but left little room for children to gather after school to get help on their homework.With the help of Home Builders Foundation (HBF), Mountainwood Homes and over twenty trade partners pitched in to create ‘The Clubhouse’. It was a coordinated effort of jurisdictions and numerous volunteers and donors to complete the project, including a large donation from Home Builders Association (HBA) member, California Closets. “For me as a local franchise owner, it’s really important to be involved in the community and HBF has been a great fit for us,” explains Darci Fredricks. “We feel it’s so important to make these places homier, and more beautiful. Providing interiors for people to feel pride in place is so important. It gives people confidence. The project for GNC involved kids, so it was really fun to give them an exciting place to learn.”"Thanks to Home Builders Foundation our services to homeless children have been enhanced beyond measure. Mountainwood Homes, was terrific to work with and the new Clubhouse addition to the shelter was completed on time and under budget,” Jack Schwab, GNC, Executive Director (retired).HBA’s advocacy team was looped in early on so they could reference it in their work on related housing development and permitting issues in the City.  These issues had been a focal point lately in this growing suburb as a result of recent UGB expansions.  HBF was presented with a Life Improvement Award from GNC for the project and the dedication event was attended by Tigard Mayor John Cook, Metro Councilor Craig Dirksen, and Washington County Commissioner Roy Rogers.Finally, we are always looking at how we can promote the impact of our work in ways that will reflect well on the industry to those outside and that also can motivate others in our industry to participate in future projects.Last year, Home Builders Foundation also won an AEA for our Painting a Better Tomorrow program in partnership with Miller Paint and Rodda Paint.
