Trap Shoot 2022 is a big hit!

Trap Shoot 2022

Annie Oakley Sharpshooters Line Up at Trap Shoot

The 18th Annual Trap Shoot presented by Parr Lumber to benefit Home Builders Foundation brought in a record-breaking $140,000, and was an explosive day of fun! The success of this event comes during the celebration of Home Builders Foundation’s 25 Anniversary.  More than 70 teams arrived in the early morning hours September 16th at the Portland Gun Club for coffee and lattes from Westside Drywall and a hot breakfast from Divine 9 before getting ready for the big day of competition and networking.

The teams included many fresh faces, some of whom had never picked up a gun before in their life. Meg Pennington, a member of the Home Builders Association of Metro Portland’sProfessional Women in Building (PWB) said, “It was very scary at first, but once I calmed down, I hit one.”

HBF Development Manager Kyle Ellerbe threw in some new twists to make the event fun, such as some exploding colored clays. “I am always looking for ways to add more excitement to the day!” The biggest hit of the day came from the Sound Capital VIP Lounge where people waiting to compete could play Big Buck Hunter - a classic hunting video game. The tent grew raucous as the competition became fierce. And raffle prizes were next level. The grand prize of a Benelli Super Black Eagle Shotgun, donated by ProVision made raffle tickets a hot item.

The crowd pleaser of the day was the annual Annie Oakley Sharpshooting contest. A record number of participants tried their hand at the single elimination shootout, which lasted over an hour. The 1st place winner was Jered Halter, followed by Beryl Terry in 2nd, and Kevin Bromley in 3rd of the 87 competitors.

Home Builders Foundation took the opportunity to make connections at Trap Shoot ’22.  Builders tell us the Trap Shoot is a major networking event. HBF had a volunteer table set up, and drew several interested folks to help with our workforce outreach efforts. HBF’s Workforce Assistant Teresa Spangler encouraged everyone by saying, “We want to be sure we have plenty of people from the home building industry like you to carry on the tradition of the Trap Shoot, and our other important programs for another 25 years.” HBF is connecting with local schools, and needs builders to help work in the classroom, at job fairs, and to mentor new members of the industry.

Shells piled up on the ground as the afternoon wore on. After the final results were tallied, Merten and Sons Landscape LLC took the 1st place spot, followed by Everett Custom Homes in 2nd, and Builders First Source in 3rd.  But winning is not the only goal. PWB team member Colleen Gallagher found a new form of fun, “I love to blow s*&t up! I should have been a Marine.”

HBF could not put on this event without the help of a terrific committee and a boat load of sponsors. We appreciate the help of committee members Larry Alvarez, Ralph Goldman, Brian Kegg, Derek Lowe, Mike Riggs, Drew Roberts, Keith Steffen, Jeff Tamburro, and Brad Van Dyke, and we want to give a big THANK YOU to our sponsors!
