Home Builders Foundation announces 2012 Building Industry Scholarship winners

The Home Builders Foundation of Metropolitan Portland recently selected seven students from around the state will be awarded a total of $12,500 in Building Industry Scholarships. The scholarship program was created by the Foundation and funded as part of a statewide effort to raise awareness and access for Oregon students pursuing careers in construction and home building.“WDC Committee members went above and beyond this year to promote and award these scholarships, provide hours of coaching services out at PCC-Rock Creek, and organize one-on-one mentoring to last year's scholarship recipients. Everyone agreed it was a rewarding experience to work with the students and help them with their college tuition,” says Robin McKnight, the Workforce Development committee chair.These scholarship funds are made possible by the Jim Irvine Statewide Scholarship Fund, the NE Oregon Scholarship Fund, Cobalt Mortgage, the Professional Remodelers Organization and the Home Builders Foundation.This year’s deserving recipients are:Marc Nicholls, from Beaverton, is attending Oregon State University in the Housing Studies program, will receive $3,000.Caitlin Tucker, from Corvallis, is currently attending Oregon State University in the Interior Design program with a Housing Studies option, will receive $2,500.Colby GeDeros, from Coquille, OR, is attending Oregon State University in the Civil Engineering program, will receive $2,000.Megan West, from Scappose, OR is attending Portland Community College in the Building Construction Technology program, and will receive the Cobalt Excellence Award in the amount of $1,500.Briana Tatanish, from Portland, is attending Portland Community College in the Residential Architecture program, will receive the $1,500 Professional Remodelers Organization Scholarship.Craig Fuller, from Stanfield, OR, is attending Blue Mountain Community College, in the electrician apprenticeship program and will receive a NE Oregon Scholarship in the amount of $1,000.Joseph Martin, from Hermiston, OR, is attending Columbia Basin College in the welding program, and will receive a NE Oregon Scholarship in the amount of $1,000.“These scholarships are a great example of how the Home Builders Foundation is working to help our young people,” said Zack Duncan, a sponsor of the scholarship program. “Cobalt Mortgage is proud to support these students as they work to make a better life for themselves and those around them.”For more information about the Home Builders Foundation or its scholarship program, call Brenda Ketah at 503-684-1880 or visit our website at www.hbapdx.org/buildhopepdx-temp.
