Record-breaking year for the HBF Trap Shoot!

Close to 250 people gathered at the Portland Gun Club on September 6 for the Home Builders Foundation’s Annual Trap Shoot presented by Parr Lumber. Expert and novice shooters, sponsors and volunteers came together with a common goal, to build hope and homes and rebuild lives. This event, now in its eighth year, raises money annually for the HBF to continue its work to build and repair homeless shelters throughout the Portland metro area. The event raised over $29,000 for the Foundation’s shelter development program. Attendees took part in a casual day of camaraderie, purchased raffle tickets for a chance at great prizes, including a Traeger Lil’ Tex grill!  The raffle was sponsored by TrusJoist and prizes also included great product from Moen, Kohler, Leupold & Stevens, George Morlan, and  hundreds of dollars in gift cards to Dick’s Sporting Goods,  Cabela’s , as well as local restaurants.Keith Steffen of Arbor Homes served as the chairperson of the HBF Trap Shoot committee this year and said, “I’ve attended the last 8 “Trap Shoots,” and this event continues to grow!  It shows me a bit of the heart of our Building Community.  In these tough, but rebounding, times, it is terrific to see new shooters, old friends, and the Contractors, Suppliers, and others donate time, materials, and talent to a worthy cause…and it’s a LOT of fun!  Thanks to the HBF for doing the “heavy lifting” to keep this event going!”Buster’s BBQ provided a hearty lunch in between rounds of shooting competition. Competition was intense with a double shoot-out for 1st place in the Men’s competition, but in the end Riggs Construction pulled it out, with B.Ayres Plumbing taking second and Lisac’s Fireplaces & Stoves took third place.   And for another year in a row, the gals from the Fireside “Broad Squad” took 1st place in the Women’s competition.  The tradition of the sharp shooter contest continued with the popular Bank of the West Annie Oakley event. Men’s winners, Rick Heard of Medallion Industries and Dennis Robertson of DBR Construction received gift cards, and so did the women’s competition winner Lauren Plagman.“This event was fantastic! The Parr Company was extremely pleased with the entire program and appreciated our small role as the Presenting Sponsors of this annual event. The Parr family recognizes the importance of supporting all those in the many communities we serve, and this certainly includes those who, for whatever reason, are currently homeless.  A great event with a very worthwhile purpose. Parr is already looking forward to being involved once again in 2013. Thanks to everyone involved” said Doug Wirges of Parr Lumber who took the roll of MC for the day.Check out more photos from the event on our HBF Facebook page!Special thanks to the following companies for generously sponsoring the 2012 Trap Shoot:
