10th Annual Trap Shoot blasts away records

Over 250 shooters helped the Home Builders Foundation shatter its previous Trap Shoot records – for everything. The fifty-one participating teams this year blew away the previous year’s record of forty-four teams, and proved once again that the Trap Shoot is one of the most popular events for the building industry.Another shattered record was for number of participants in the Annie Oakley Sharpshooter competition. Almost 130 shooters participated this year, forcing the competition to spread over three traps. In a shocking turn of events, Portland Gun Club local Lauren Plagman captured the Annie Oakley mixed-round title in a decisive battle with the event’s top sharpshooters. In the ladies-only round, last year’s winner Nikki Seibel once proved herself as top dog, knocking out international bunker trap collegiate champion Kate Bonn after a lengthy back-and-forth between the two. Thanks to generous donations from Cabela’s, Parr Lumber, Fireside Distributors, DR Horton, Leupold, James Hardie, NW Natural, Carr Nissan, and Kershaw Knives, this year’s raffle drew more tickets sales than any other year. Winner anxiously awaited the final ticket drawings for their chance to win a Napoleon Mirage Gas Grill, a Green Mountain smoker, or the largest raffle prize to date, a $1,000 gift card to Cabela’s, courtesy of DR Horton. HBF would like to especially thank Cabela’s of Springfield for their generous donation of $1,000 worth of merchandise to the raffle. The Home Builders Foundation would like to send a special thank you to Parr Lumber. As presenting sponsor, Parr Lumber provides much appreciated support for this event, but went above and beyond this year by surprising Executive Director Ken Cowdery with a generous donation of $1,000 towards Portland Rescue Mission’s renovation of its homeless women’s shelter at Burnside.
