HBF returns to Burnside Shelter to expand women's shelter

With the help of returning HBF Builder Captain, Nathan D. Young Construction, HBF will be returning to Portland Rescue Mission’s Burnside Shelter to expand the women’s shelter downtown.  (You may remember that HBF refurnished a day room during the holidays last year!)  We now plan to help them add additional beds, a small kitchenette, dining area and a bathroom for their new Connect program. For the first time in 65 years, Portland Rescue Mission is able to offer a program to help homeless women transition from life on the streets into independent housing and employment. Here are the immediate needs that you can help with:

  • Cabinets for kitchenette and small storage area
  • Countertops- small sections for  kitchenette and dining area
  • Paint for walls, ceilings and floor
  • Window coverings
  • Light fixtures
  • Sink, toilet and dishwasher

If you would like to find out more about the project or how to get involved with future Foundation projects, please contact Brenda Ketah at brendak@hbapdx.org or 503-684-1880.
