Home Builders Foundation makes donation to Benson High School's efforts to build tiny houses for the homeless

Home Builders Foundation (HBF) board member Tim Nacrelli watched a recent TV news story about a theft at Benson High School and decided he had to do something to help. “The fact that the theft involved tools students were using to build tiny houses for the homeless really got to me. “ Nacrelli explains. “The HBF helps build shelters for the homeless in partnership with area home builders and remodelers, and we also offer training and college scholarships for those interested in the residential construction industry. A donation to support their efforts seemed a like perfect fit for our mission.”HBF Project Manager Brenda Ketah contacted Benson High School and learned the community was already being generous about helping replace the tools. “The more we learned about the Benson’s Tech-Geometry class’ efforts to build tiny hoses for the homeless the more we were intrigued.” she explains. “We want to support their community work but we also saw a great opportunity to support young people who may want to pursue a career in residential construction.”HBF donated $1,000 to the Tech-Geometry class and has also decided to stay in touch. As Ken Cowdery, HBF Executive Director explains, “This is a fantastic opportunity to help build shelters for the homeless and at the same time support deserving young adults that might want to start a career in the building industry. Maybe some of these students might need an advanced training or college scholarship. This is perfect mission alignment for us.”
