Home Builders Foundation honors its Volunteer and Company of the Year
Each year, Home Builders Foundation recognizes one individual and one company whose outstanding contributions to the organization makes a significant impact to further the HBF’s mission to help end homelessness. This year, Home Builders Foundation honored Tom Melia as its Volunteer of the Year and Shelter Solutions LLC as its Company of the Year.Shelter Solutions LLC, led by Joe Robertson, has served as Builder Captain for a record three projects in 2017. Shelter Solutions oversaw roof replacements at Smith House and Jordan House, both operated by Youth Progress. Not satisfied with a mere roof replacement, Shelter Solutions worked with its subcontractors to include gutter replacements and siding repairs to both facilities. In addition, Shelter Solutions served as Builder Captain for the Village of Hope domestic violence shelter. This complete demolition and ground-up building project is currently the largest project undertaken by Home Builders Foundation, and would not have been possible without the support of Shelter Solutions. Joe also serves on the HBF’s Board of Directors. In 2017, Tom Melia contributed hundreds of hours to shelter projects, including the Village of Hope project for Clackamas Women’s Services. Tom, using his industry connections, helped secure donations and discounted labor and materials from dozens of companies and individuals. Tom has saved our shelter projects hundreds of thousands of dollars in construction costs by utilizing his vast network across the home building industry. Additionally, Tom has served as the committee chair for the HBF’s Trap Shoot fundraising event. With his support, this event has grown in attendance and revenue exponentially.
