Future Builders Help Out

Here is a shout out to September Workforce Development Month heroes Josh Pikop and his students at Sam Barlow High. We reached out to all of the local high school construction programs this summer to inform them about the work we do here at Home Builders Foundation.

Barlow teacher Pikop mentioned he has the students build sheds as a learning exercise, and he asked if HBF would be interested in partnering with their program. HBF's resourceful Program Manager Chris McDowell immediately got to work. First, he gathered and delivered leftover lumber from Home Builders Association's NW Natural Street of Dreams site to the Gresham high school. Then he contacted Bliss Roofing and the National Women in Roofing to help with the shed's roof.

The shed the students build will go a wonderful new home at Anisa’s Place operated by A Village for One. The Clackamas County home, which was an HBF shelter project, provides rehabilitation for young women recovering from sex trafficking.

Projects like this help us encourage the builders of tomorrow, and is a great demonstration of the collaborative process that makes all of our shelter building possible.
