HBF Trap Shoot Was A Smashing Success
A beautiful sunrise rose over the Portland Gun Club for the 17th Annual Home Builders Foundation Trap Shoot presented by Parr Lumber, celebrating the return of this in-person, day-long tradition of many members of the home building industry.
Fifty four teams arrived just before the sun rose on September 17th, and began to warm up at the practice traps sponsored by Cascade Windows & Doors. After guests checked in, they grabbed a quick breakfast thanks to Chicago Title and Celebrate Catering, and picked up a goodie bag put together thanks to our sponsors. The goodie bags, which included the annual Parr Lumber hat and other gifts from IWP, Westside Drywall and others, all in a dry storage bag from RidgeCrest Custom Cabinetry.
As attendees enjoyed lattes and smoothies sponsored by Westside Drywall, everyone gathered around the flagpole for a fantastic rendition of the national anthem from Ashley Mead of DR Horton. Guests then heard from HBF Board President Jason Waugh and Executive Director Brenda Ketah, who reminded everyone that the funds raised that day will help people experiencing or at risk of homelessness build new lives through construction, community engagement, and education. Following the national anthem, shots started ringing across venue, with clay pigeons exploding in the air.
By mid-morning, teams completed their first round of shooting and began gathering for some networking and games in the Sound Capital VIP Shooter Lounge. Then, anyone who wanted to show their metal lined up for the exciting Annie Oakley Shootout, a single elimination individual shootout. By the end, there was a huge pile of spent shotgun shells, and three victorious winners.
1st Place - Jered Halter
2nd Place - Chuck McClaughtery
3rd Place - Chris Merten
Everyone at the Trap Shoot had a chance at winning, as raffle tickets were sold alongside the shooting range. Prizes ranged from a Traeger Grill from Parr Lumber, 4 - $250 Cabelas gift cards from Holt Homes, finishing nailers from James Hardie, Carhartt jackets from IWP, and much more. All proceeds will go to help HBF’s projects. Thank you to other raffle donors Builders FirstSource, Cabelas, Cascade Windows, Leupold, OrePac, Portland Gun Club, and Weyerhaeuser Trus Joist.
Before the second round of shooting guests grabbed some lunch sponsored by Taiga Exterior Wood and Envision Interiors, featuring barbeque brisket, pulled pork, and sides. Catering was provided this year by Home Builders Association in-house caterer, Celebrate! Catering. After guests had their fill, HBF was able to donate the leftovers from breakfast and lunch to our shelter partner Do Good Multnomah, who was able to take the food to its shelters - Clackamas Veterans Village and St. Johns Village. Both facilities feature a pod village for its residents transitioning from experiencing homelessness.
After getting some lunch, teams were ready to pull the trigger again. Several more hours of action resulted in these top winners, but only Builders FirstSource will have their name one the trophy as the 2021 Trap Shoot winner for the fourth time in HBF’s 17 years of host the industry event..
1st Place - Builders FirstSource - 223 points (of 250 possible)
